Philosophy
I believe the best thing you can do for someone is help them find their own instinct, and then trust it.
Whether I'm designing an experience, leading a team, or teaching an animator to make a character think, I am always asking, How do you create the conditions where someone feels safe enough to try, curious enough to keep going, and capable enough to trust what they discover?
Not guided. Not instructed. Discovered.
That word is at the center of everything I make and everyone I work with. The animator learning to translate internal feeling into readable action. The child at an exhibit who reaches for something and suddenly wants to know more. The team member who finds their voice in a critique and realizes their instinct was right all along. They're all learning to pay attention to what's already there.
I've spent years teaching, mentoring, and building creative communities through game animation programs, real-time production fellowships, and advocacy for the kinds of inclusive environments where more people feel safe to make things. Those experiences have confirmed the same thing my best designs have.
When someone feels like they found something themselves, it stays with them differently than something they were shown.
That's The Invisible Guide Principle. The experience that works so well you forget it's there. The world that opens up without announcing itself. The moment someone stops, looks up, and realizes something has shifted, and they're not exactly sure when it happened.
It's what I design toward. It's what I teach toward. It's what I'm building toward with Looking Glass Creative Studio and Keiki Mu.
Discovery isn't a feature. It's the whole point.
